The United States and Russia announced plans ("Terms for a Cessation of Hostilities in Syria”) on Monday for a cessation of hostilities in Syria, excluding Islamic State and Nusra Front militants that would take effect starting on February 27 at 00:00.
According to an official joint statement, the truce will “be applied to those parties to the Syrian conflict that have indicated their commitment” to accept its terms. It will exclude Islamic State, Al Nusra Front and “other terrorist organizations designated by the UN Security Council.”
RT informs the ceasefire plan also stipulates that other parties should indicate “their commitment to and acceptance of the terms for the cessation of hostilities” by no later than 12:00 (Damascus time) on February 26.
Parties to the hostilities would indicate their agreement by midday (12 p.m.) on Friday Damascus time, and the cessation of hostilities would go into effect at midnight, Reuters reports.
Earlier, on 12 February, world powers had agreed a truce to come into effect within a week, but that deadline passed and scepticism remains over the new plan.
