Ukraine’s former president Viktor Yanukovych who was removed from power in a coup two years ago intends to come back to the country and serve as its president, his lawyer VItaly Serdyuk said on Tuesday.

"He has intentions to return to Ukraine, and legal steps will be made for this. Yanukovych has not relinquished his presidential powers and has not withdrawn from the country's leadership," Serdyuk told the Ukrainian media in an interview.

According to TASS, the procedure to dismiss Yanukovych from office came in gross violation of Ukraine’s constitution, he reminded.

Viktor Yanukovych, who previously served as Ukraine’s prime minister, was elected as president on February 25, 2010. In late February 2014, Yanukovych fled to Russia form Kiev in February 2014 following months of anti-government protests. The next day the parliament voted to terminate his powers.
