The media have reported that the United States intends to evacuate the families of US military and civilian personnel from Turkey due to the high level of the terrorist threat. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova was asked to comment this information on April 1.
«As it has been reported, the other day Washington ordered the families of US military and civilian personnel to depart from the southeastern and southwestern provinces of Turkey (Izmir and Mugla) in view of the growing terrorist threat. Before that, the Israeli Government urged its citizens visiting Turkey to leave as soon as possible and to avoid going to Turkey amid security concerns. We have to admit that visiting Turkey has become unsafe due to the current tensions in the country. Four large terrorist attacks have been staged there this year, and a bloody battle is on-going between the government forces and the Kurds in southeast Turkey. Reports from the Turkish-Syrian border are alarming», Zakharova said.
She added: «We consider it necessary to again remind Russians about the warnings issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Federal Agency for Tourism (Rostourism) against travelling to Turkey due to the high level of the terrorist threat. We recommend that those Russians who are currently in Turkey do not visit the southeastern provinces and avoid crowded places, including tourist and entertainment sites, all kinds of demonstrations and other similar events».
