European Union envoys agreed on Friday a six-month rollover of the bloc's economic sanctions on Russia, diplomats said, extending the measures on energy, banking and defence sectors until the end of July 2016, Reuters reports.
The decision will become final at midday on Monday unless any member state changes its position and raises an objection in writing.
TASS notices that European Union and Russia may overcome sanctions regime according to Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi words.
"We have never concealed our position, even when being criticized," Renzi said. "In order to withstand extremism we need Russia’s participation and the recent developments proved we were right."
"We can overcome the sanctions taking into account the implementation of the Minsk Accords," he added. "We have no problems with the preservation of the sanctions, but their automatic prolongation without any discussions seems to be at least weird."
