Huge bridge collapsed on Thursday onto pedestrians without warning in the Indian city of Kolkata. At least 21 people have been killed and some 150 are feared trapped after a flyover collapsed onto moving traffic, authorities said.
According to Daily Mail, dozens of pedestrians and drivers may be crushed underneath the under-construction overpass, which came down during rush hour in a teeming commercial district near Girish Park, just west of the Bangladesh border.
Firefighters and volunteers have been trying to rescue people. Reuters informs residents used their bare hands to try to rescue people pinned under a 100-metre (110-yard) length of metal and cement that snapped off at one end and came crashing down in a teeming commercial district near Girish Park.
Nearly 70% of the construction work were completed without any mishap, said KP Rao, an official at IVRCL Infrastructure, the company building the overpass.
