The programme of his stay in Nicosia includes a meeting with President Nicos Anastasiades of Cyprus, negotiations with Minister of Foreign Affairs Ioannes Kasoulides, and talks with President of the House of Representatives Yiannakis Omirou and head of the Cypriot Orthodox Church Archbishop Chrysostomos II.

As The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation says the aim of the visit is to discuss a broad range of bilateral and international issues. There will be an exchange of views on Russia-EU relations, the state of Cypriot settlement, the situation in Syria and the Middle East region as a whole, and on a number of other topics. Nicosia has reacted to the downing by the Turkish Air Force of a Russian aircraft immediately and with full understanding of the Russian position. Both countries are advocating a return to Russia-EU constructive cooperation and the strengthening of the United Nations’ central role in international relations as a universal institution for maintaining peace and security.
