Russia’s top investigative agency has accused exiled tycoon and former prisoner Mikhail Khodorkovsky of involvement in the 1998 killing of a Siberian mayor, accusations he has dismissed as false Guardian says.
The Investigative Committee said on Friday that an inquiry had revealed Khodorkovsky was involved in the murder of Vladimir Petukhov, the mayor of Nefteyugansk, the town where Khodorkovsky’s oil company, Yukos, had its headquarters at the time.
The Financial Times reminds that earlier this week Khodorkovsky said he would not return to answer a summons in Russia, where he had been placed on a wanted list. He has been living in Switzerland and London since Vladimir Putin ordered his release in December 2013 after 10 years in prison. Since his release he has continued to oppose the Kremlin from exile in Switzerland.
