Russian Prime minister Dmitry Medvedev has revealed he signed a decree on responsive sanctions against Ukraine following Kyiv's joining the anti-Russian sanctions, Interfax reported.
"Ukraine will come under responsive economic measures over its joining anti-Russian sanctions of the European Union and the States starting from January 1, 2016," Medvedev said at a meeting with his deputies on Monday.
According to Medvedev, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on suspension of validity of the agreement on free trade zone regarding Ukraine, which stipulated duty free import of all Ukrainian goods to the Russian Federation, excluding sugar, TASS added.
"Now the situation is a thing of the past. The decision was made as Ukraine said that starting from 2016 it will be implementing the economic part of the agreement on its association with the EU. Amid this environment we have to protect our market and our producers and prevent import of goods from other countries posing as those from Ukraine," he said.
