The Russian Foreign Ministry has spoken in favor of Kurdish participation in the intra-Syrian talks in Geneva, which Turkey opposes.
According to TASS, the success of the Geneva talks on the Syrian crisis resolution depends on the participation of Syrian Kurds, Senam Mohamed, the co-chairperson of the People's Council of Western Kurdistan, said on Wednesday.
"We have seen the results of the talks on Syrian settlement in Geneva without Kurds," Senam Mohamed told an opening ceremony of the Kurdish mission in Moscow. She mentioned that they hope that Kurdish people would be invited to the next round, otherwise the results would be the same
Russia's envoy to the UN office in Geneva also claimed on Wednesday that the refusal to invite Syrian Kurds to talks was a mistake made by UN Special Envoy on Syria Staffan de Mistura.
"Staffan de Mistura’s decision not to send an invitation for the negotiations to the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party is a mistake. Syrian Kurds are an integral part of the Syrian society, citizens of Syria, and they have the right to participate in determining the fate of their country. Moreover, they are actively fighting ‘on the ground’ with the Islamic State," Alexey Borodavkin reported to the Tribune de Geneve newspaper.
Sputnik News says without participation of the Kurds, there cannot be any advancement in any points on the agenda of the Syrian talks, as Borodavkin said.
