RussianPM Oleg Mikheyev of A Just Russia Party social democratic party has asked the Prosecutor General's Office to investigate TripAdvisor after the travel company defined Crimea on a map as a subject of Ukraine, rather than Russia.

According to TASS, the MP said this could serve as a ground to recognize the US travel website company as "undesirable" in Russia. An organization deemed "undesirable" may have its activity limited or banned in the country, and its assets can be frozen

Mikheyev says: “Despite that the Republic of Crimea rejoined Russia two years ago, this organization depicts Crimea as one of Ukraine’s subjects, not Russia’s.”

The Moscow Times informs the MP mentioned in the document that the matter had been brought to his attention by online tourism outlet tourprom.ru,

In response to Mikheyev's request a TripAdvisor official says: “As the world’s largest travel website, our geo-classifications take into account guidance from the international community. In the case of Crimea we follow the geo-classification currently agreed by the United Nations". Moreover, the official added that the maps on TripAdvisor’s websites are provided by Google Maps.
