Four men who had been trapped 200 metres below surface of mine in Shandong province that collapsed on Christmas Day have been rescued late on Friday.
The Guardian informs that footage from state broadcaster CCTV showed watching crowds applaud as the men, aged between 36 and 58, were brought to the surface one by one in a cramped capsule following a long and perilous rescue operation.
In general, 29 people were initially trapped by the collapse: 15 have been rescued and one confirmed dead, but 13 of them are still missing.
In front of crowd and reporters, the men were wrapped in military blankets and put in ambulance. "Their eyes were covered by masks as they appeared on the surface," says BBC.
For several weeks, more than 400 rescue and emergency workers were tunneling down to the surviving men. According to BBC, water and liquids were passed down through a narrow borehole.
