A Taliban suicide bomber struck near a Kabul police complex on Monday. It was killed at least 20 policemen and wounded 29 people in the bombing.
"Monday's attack happened at the entrance of the headquarters of the National Civil Order Police, a unit that has a counterinsurgency role against the Taliban", BBC reports. Officials initially laid the blame at a suicide car bomber, but subsequently it was said the attacker had joined a queue to get into the police station before he detonated his explosives.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, took charge of the attack. He also said the bomber had targeted the facility as a large group of police officers was leaving.
The New York Time informs the attack came as the American military issued a grim confirmation of the war’s toll on the Afghan security forces. It declares that casualties among Afghan soldiers and policemen in the last year were up by almost a third, which set a record from 2014, when a casualty rate was so high that some officials described it then as unsustainable.
According to The Huffington Post, Kabul was hit last month by a series of suicide attacks as the Taliban have stepped up their campaign against the Western-backed government.
