France's interior minister said on Wednesday that French anti-terrorism police arrested a small group of people with Islamist militant ties, suspecting one of them may have been planning an attack in Paris, Independent reports.
"We have information about one person that suggests that he could undertake violent actions in France," Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve told Reuters, adding the man was thought to have ties with the Islamic State in Syria.
The suspects, three women and four men, were detained at dawn in French capital and the nearby suburb of Seine-Sant Denis. It was reported that security forces had files on each person for their Islamist ties.
According to RT, police also seized an unused cartridge for a Kalashnikov rifle, an alarm pistol, computer equipment, and a safe during the arrests.
Among the suspects are Aytac and Ercan B., two French brothers of Turkish origin, and E. Youssef, an Islamist well-known to authorities. Previously, Youssef was arrested at Saint-Etienne airport in 2014, on charges that he and two accomplices were planning to travel to Syria to fight as terrorists.
