Azerbaijan and the Armenian-backed breakaway republic of Nagorno-Karabakh on Tuesday announced an immediate cease-fire after four days of intense fighting that had prompted fears of all-out war.
BBC informs this announcement came from the Armenian separatists and Azeri defence ministry.
However, Colonel Senor Asratyan, the press secretary of the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army, told TASS by telephone on Tuesday that fire was underway in the northeastern direction of the contact line. According to the news agency, Asratyan noted that the Karabakh army was refraining from retaliatory measures in a bid to stay committed to the ceasefire agreements reached earlier on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, quoted by Reuters news agency, said Ankara would continue to stand by Azerbaijan in the conflict.
